What mechanisms are being studied?

Humanin is a 24-amino acid microprotein encoded within the mitochondrial genome (16S rRNA region). It activates STAT3, ERK1/2, and PI3K/Akt survival pathways, directly protects against amyloid-beta neurotoxicity, preserves mitochondrial membrane potential under stress, and exerts anti-apoptotic effects.
