What mechanisms are being studied?

Glepaglutide (ZP1848) is a synthetic, long-acting analog of glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2), a 33-amino-acid intestinotrophic hormone released from intestinal L-cells. Mechanistically distinct from GLP-1 / GIP, glepaglutide drives crypt-cell proliferation, villus elongation, increased intestinal blood flow, and enhanced nutrient and fluid absorption through GLP-2R on enteroendocrine and subepithelial myofibroblast cells.
